What's inside the Seeed SenseCAP Indicator (D1 series)

Simplified model. Outer size to scale; inside parts are approximate.

  • Touch glassCover glass

Black glass with a touch layer covers the whole front. Muse runs this board as a status screen with images.

  • 4" touchscreen (LCD)Screen

A 4 inch screen, 480 by 480 pixels. Muse shows a status screen and images here.

  • ESP32-S3Chip

This is the ESP32-S3, the small computer that runs Muse. It has two cores at up to 240 MHz, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE.

  • RP2040 sensor chipChip

A second chip, the RP2040, reads the sensors and passes the readings to the ESP32-S3. Muse needs Seeed's stock RP2040 firmware for this.

  • Main boardCircuit board

The main board carries both chips. The screen sits in front of it and the sensors behind it.

  • CO2 and tVOC sensors (D1S, D1Pro)Sensoroptional

The D1S and D1Pro have CO2 and tVOC sensors built in; the plain D1 has none. Muse reads every sensor at once with sensors.read.

  • BuzzerSound

A small buzzer for beeps. There is no microphone or speaker, so this board has no voice features.

  • Top buttonButton

A short press confirms pairing when Muse asks for it. Holding it for 5 seconds resets setup.

  • USB-C port (bottom)Port

USB-C on the bottom edge, next to the microSD slot. A CH340 bridge makes it show up as /dev/cu.usbserial-* or /dev/ttyUSB* for flashing.

  • microSD slotPort

A microSD card slot on the bottom edge. Muse does not need a card.

  • Grove portPort

Plug the Grove AHT20 sensor from the box in here for temperature and humidity readings.

  • USB-C port (back)Port

A second USB-C port sits in the kickstand recess on the back.

  • CaseCase, back

A finished plastic case. A keyhole slot on the back lets you hang it on a wall.

  • Fold-out kickstandStand

A kickstand folds out of the back to hold the screen up on a desk.
